Social Media and Communications
Blogs, or web logs, are online diaries where users write entries and interact with readers through their feedback. Many blogging sites provide free services, including at www.blogger.com and www.wordpress.com. A guide to blogging can be found here.
There is free (unsecured) wireless internet throughout the General Assembly venue and plug points are available throughout the building. International plug adapters can be borrowed from the Austria Center Information Desk, for a deposit.
Like last year, a list of General Assembly related blogs will be compiled and made available. Note that the content available on these sites is not sanctioned by the EGU. If you would like your blog to feature on our list, please submit your blog details to us.
GeoLog, the official EGU blog, will be updated regularly during the General Assembly. It will include posts about some of the meeting's sessions, highlight media coverage of the assembly, and feature interviews with relevant scientists. If you would like to contribute to this official blog, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with your idea.
Twitter is a social networking and micro-blogging site, where members broadcast short messages of up to 140 characters. You can post links and pictures on Twitter and re-broadcast ("re-tweet") interesting "tweets" from others. Hashtags (a topic preceded by a "#", e.g. #egu2012) are used to categorise conversations. Please use the hashtag #egu2012 when discussing EGU General Assembly 2012. EGU's official Twitter feed, @EuroGeosciences, will contain information on key events during the General Assembly. The collection of all tweets using #egu2012 can be found, e.g., on TweetChat.com.
These are social networking services and websites, where members can share updates, information, pictures and videos with their friends/people in their circles/connections. You must register on these websites to create a profile and connect to other users. The EGU has official Facebook, Google+, and LinkedIn pages, which are used to share news and updates about the Union. As with the other sites, these pages will be dedicated to General Assembly information during the meeting.
YouTube / Flickr / Slideshare
These are sites that allow you to share video, photographs and presentations. When posting content here please use the hashtag #egu2012. The EGU has an official YouTube page. Regarding your General Assembly presentation please make use of the EGU presentation upload into the conference programme. Details will be announced by email after the conference.
